One of The First Keys to Prosperity -Knowing Your Identity in Christ

During my last blog I said that there is about to be a wealth transfer for God’s people. This wealth transfer is going to be for all those who believe that God is their provider and for those that position and posture themselves both spiritually and pragmatically. Wealth in this context is not only about finances, but about peace and power.

During every recession there is a great transfer of wealth regardless of if people are believers or not. However, God wants His people to benefit the most from this transfer. But God’s people must know and believe their identity in Christ first. This is one of the first keys of receiving the wealth and full prosperity of God.

Before I go into one of the first keys to prosperity, let’s define prosperity. According to the Bible, there are a few Hebrew definitions of the word prosperity. One is salom (pronounced shalom), which means complete peace, ease, health, contentment and safety. Another word is tobe (pronounced tov), which means good, better, rich, happiness, bounty, favor, and wealth. And there is the word saleah, meaning to advance, prosper, succeed and to break out. So according to the Word of God prosperity does not only encompass wealth and abundance it also has to do with happiness, peace, ease, and safety. One of my favorite definitions of prosperity is saleah, which means to break out. God is about to cause your business and your finances to break out in Jesus name!

3 John 2 states, “Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.” The Word of God makes it very clear that God’s intention is that we prosper. Meaning God wants us to live a life full of careless security, health, happiness, favor, and abundance. Our prosperity is a part of our covenant with God.

Once you receive Christ as your personal Lord and Savior, you automatically receive a level of prosperity within you. However, in order to partake and receive the fullness of your prosperity, it is essential that you know your identity in Christ and believe who you are in Christ. It’s like that old adage, you must believe before you receive.

So, how do you know who you are in Christ? Well that’s simple, first by renewing your mind. Romans 12:2 states, “Do not conform to the pattern of this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” As you can see you must renew your mind first in order to test God’s will. And what is God’s will? For you to prosper! And here is the good news, Romans 12:2 tells us that God’s will is good and pleasing!

So, how do we renew our mind? By knowing and by truly believing our identity in Christ. When you renew your mind, it literally creates new neuropathways in your brain.

The Word of God says that we are:

· Children of God (John 1:12)

· We Are Complete In Christ (Colossians 2:10)

· We are one spirit with Christ (1 Corinthians 6:17)

· We are free from sin (Romans 6:6)

· We are created in the image of God (Genesis 1:27)

· We are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation (1 Peter 2:9)

· We are lenders and not borrowers (Deuteronomy 28:12) and;

· We are heirs to a wealth covenant (Deuteronomy 8:18)

All that I just mentioned encompasses our identity in Christ.

Ultimately, you must believe that you are a child of God, and that you are entitled to receive every good blessing that our Father has for us before you receive the complete prosperity of God. Essentially, you must be wealthy internally first, before you can be wealthy externally. Now I did not say rich, because I know there are people out there that will say I know people who are not believers, yet they are rich. But riches have to do with material matter only, but wealth has not only to do with riches, but also with freedom, peace, and power.

If you haven’t already, ask God to renew your mind. Ask God to build your capacity and give you the grace to receive, maintain, and grow the money He is about to bless you with.

Also, this week begin to declare who you are in Christ. Remember as a man thinketh, so is he (Psalm 23:7)

This post is such a beautiful reminder that true prosperity begins on the inside, Dr. Shannon! The way you broke down the Hebrew meanings of prosperity — especially saleah, meaning to "break out" — really shifted my perspective. It's so easy to chase external success while neglecting the inner foundation of identity and faith. This resonates deeply, especially for students and young professionals who are constantly under pressure to prove themselves. I've seen peers studying nursing leadership draw real inspiration from figures like Mary Seacole, and even Mary Seacole Programme assignment examples reflect themes of purpose, service, and identity — values that align perfectly with what you've shared here. When we root our ambitions in who God says we are,…

This is such a powerful and timely message, Dr. Shannon! The reminder that true prosperity starts from within — knowing who we are in Christ — really hits home. So many of us chase external success without first grounding ourselves in our identity as children of God. I love how you broke down the Hebrew definitions of prosperity; it completely reframes the way we think about wealth as peace, freedom, and wholeness, not just finances. This resonates deeply, especially for those of us juggling so much at once — whether it's building a business, managing life responsibilities, or even seeking online help with university assignments to better our futures. Renewing our minds, as Romans 12:2 teaches, applies to every area…

Reading the post about identity and prosperity helped me think about inner peace and purpose in life. Once I was so stressed with school that I told a friend someone to take my online class because I felt lost, but praying and taking slow steps gave me strength and hope, just like the article said knowing yourself gives peace. It showed me that belief and patience change how I handle hard moments

I liked the post about knowing your identity in Christ because it talks about how understanding yourself can shape peace and purpose in life. I remember a time I needed Help with online calculas class and I prayed and worked step by step, which helped my mind stay calm and focused. It makes me see that when you trust yourself and take it slow, hard work feels lighter.
